Rusty, the house cat, is longing for adventure. Just beyond the backyard fence is a forest. One day he goes out into the forest oblivious to the rumors. He meets some thunder clan cats. They notice he may be braver than other house cats. They ask him to come into their clan. The one named Lionheart asks Rusty to meet him the next sunhigh if he wants to join the clan. He warns Rusty that he may not become a warrior. So the next day, Rusty says good-bye and goes into the forest. There he meets Lionheart and another cat named Whitestorm. They lead him to their camp.
